Friday from 8am-2pm.
The head of office is Bryndís Gunnlaugsdóttir.
During summer, the office is closed from June 17 through the first Monday in August.
Student absences
Illness and short-term leave must be reported through Námfús first thing in the morning.
When students return after illness, they must be healthy enough to participate in scheduled activities and recess.
For absences longer than two days, email a request to alftamyrarskoli@reykjavik.is with the student's full name, absence dates, and reason. School leave requests should be kept to a minimum. Guardians are responsible for any disruption to a student's education due to absence or exemption from school attendance.
Snacks
Students in lower and middle grades eat their snacks around the first recess period. They should bring healthy snacks from home and a water bottle. Food scraps and packaging go back home with students.
Students in grades 8-10 eat in the cafeteria and receive free oatmeal.
Cafeteria
Álftamýrarskóli runs a cafeteria for students and staff. Parents register children for meals through Vala or the office manager. The school aims to offer varied and healthy food in the cafeteria. Students with allergies or intolerances must submit a doctor's note to the office.
Recess
Students in grades 1-7 have outdoor recess twice daily. School aides, learning support assistants, and teachers supervise students in hallways and on school grounds. Students should dress for the weather and bring extra clothes when necessary. We try to go outside daily in all weather conditions. Students in grades 8-10 can choose whether to go outside during their recess.
Námfús
Námfús manages class schedules, attendance, homework, parent interview booking, and educational assessments. Parents/guardians report child illnesses and short-term leaves through Námfús. Contact the office manager for more information.
Physical education and swimming
Swimming lessons take place at Laugardalslaug. A bus transports students and an escort accompanies all grade levels. School staff assist students in grades 1 and 2 in changing rooms.
For PE classes, students wear comfortable clothing. Grades 1-4 go barefoot, grades 5-10 wear sneakers. Note that PE classes are held outdoors in September and May.
