Parent involvement at Álftamýrarskóli

Children's welfare and successful academic progress rely heavily on parents supporting their children's education, protecting their interests, collaborating with the school, providing relevant information, and participating in their children's learning and parent activities throughout primary school. Information sharing between homes and schools, and cooperation between teachers and parents on learning and teaching, are crucial for successful schooling. Schools are responsible for establishing and maintaining such collaboration throughout the child's education. Parents' active involvement in their children's learning and activities is essential for them to fulfill their responsibility for their children's successful upbringing and education. Each school has an operational parent association, parent council, or school council.

Álftamýrarskóli Parent Association

Álftamýrarskóli has an active parent association. It aims to support school operations, promote student welfare and strengthen home-school connections. Each school's parent association defines its own rules of operation, including the election process for its board and the selection of representatives to the school council. The Association's board also works closely with parent associations of other primary schools in Laugardalur and Bústaðahverfi. It has a representative in SAMFOK. The parent association doesn't receive fixed support. It raises funds through membership fees and various other means.
