Álftamýrarskóli is a comprehensive primary school that began operating in fall 1964. The school has 420 students in grades 1-10 and about 60 staff members. The school uses a team teaching approach and emphasizes formative learning and Beginning Literacy. The school's educational approach is based on Raising for Responsibility - building self-discipline.

The school's values are achievement - respect - courage.

Álftabær After-School Program is for children in 1st to 4th grade of Álftamýrarskóli, and Tónabær Youth Center offers a variety of fun activities for children and adolescents.

Staff

We emphasize attracting and retaining ambitious staff who work to build students' positive self-image through mutual respect and good communication.

Operational plan

What's ahead for Álftamýrarskóli? In the annual operational plan, you'll find information about the school's policy, the structure of the school year and much more.

School rules

At Álftamýrarskóli, we have expectations for our students. We want them to succeed in both play and work, but we use mistakes as opportunities to learn from them. Our rules serve as tools to help us maintain the school culture we desire.

Primary school meals

School meals are free, but it's important for the school to maintain oversight, keep track of allergy and intolerance information, and limit food waste. Students must register for the school lunch program as before.

Students registered last year will be automatically enrolled. Others need to register. Change the registration at matur.vala.is.

Parent cooperation

We are all in this together, and as the proverb goes it takes a village to raise a child. Reykjavík City schools make targeted efforts to consult with and increase parent involvement in school activities. All schools in Reykjavík City have an active parent association.

School council

Primary schools must have an active school council that serves as a forum for consultation between the principal and the school community on the school operation. The main role of the school council is to be a forum for all representatives of the school community to consult on school matters.

Student association

As required by the Act on Compulsory Education, Álftamýrarskóli has an active student association. The student association addresses social, welfare, and student interests. Its representatives sit on the school council.

Evaluation of school activities

Here you can view Álftamýrarskóli's internal assessment results and the improvement plan that followed. The school hasn't undergone external assessment since becoming Álftamýrarskóli again (after Háaleitisskóli).
